2013 Must-Have Books

I almost forgot to come up with this list because of my recent sort-of blogging slump. Thank goodness for archives, though, because I checked my posts during January and found my 2012 Books I Can’t Wait to Get My Hands On list. In order to keep up with tradition, I am coming up with a list for 2013 so I can remember which books to pre-order for myself and use laser labels (assuming I have them, that is).

Besides, it’s fun writing this list.

And here we go.

Iscariot by Tosca Lee (February 5). I’ve heard of this book around…2009? Early 2010? And finally, it’s coming out. I am so, so excited for this. I loved Demon and Havah, and when I heard that Tosca is writing a book about Judas Iscariot, I knew I had to get it. I actually have a galley of this already, but I am so, so getting a print copy because it’s Tosca. And I’m pretty sure she’s going to tear my heart apart again with this one.

The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen (June 4). Ah, another Sarah Dessen. I have to admit that I wasn’t really enamored by What Happened to Goodbye, but Dessen books have a special place in my heart because they got me into YA. I love the title and the cover, though, and it feels like such a comforting, summer read (even if it gets released here during the rainy season in the Philippines).

The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen

The Return of the Shandar by Jasper Fforde (September 12). The third Dragonslayer book was supposed to be released last year but I think it was pushed because of the release of the seventh Thursday Next book. No matter, I haven’t read that yet anyway. This should be pretty self-explanatory, given that Jasper Fforde is one of my favorite authors ever. I can’t wait for more Jennifer Strange adventures.

The Lucy Variations by Sara Zarr (May 7). I honestly thought that this was a sci-fi novel based on the title alone, and I though - Huh, Sara Zarr is venturing into a new genre. Cool. But it’s not, and I’m glad because I like Sara Zarr’s contemporary novels. I’m a Zarr completist, and I’m really looking forward to this. :)

The Crane Wife by Patrick Ness (April). Oh Patrick Ness, you are back. :) This is his adult novel, and the summary sounds lovely. The last line may sound a bit cheesy, but knowing Patrick Ness, I’m sure this will be really amazing: Wise, romantic, magical and funny, The Crane Wife is a hymn to the creative imagination and a celebration of the disruptive and redemptive power of love.

Patrick Ness is also coming out with a new YA novel in 2013, More Than This.No cover or blurb yet, but you can be sure that I will be pre-ordering that, too. :)

Boundless by Cynthia Hand (January 22). The last book in the Unearthly series, and I feel strangely sad about it. This is probably the one of the few paranomal YA series that I still like, and it will be kind of hard to say goodbye to them now. I cannot wait to know what happens next to Clara, though, and if I will be swayed to Christian’s side in this book or stay loyal to Tucker. Ahh.

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins (May 7). And speaking of last books — here’s another one. The release date for this book was also pushed to 2013 instead of 2012, but I don’t really mind. It seems like the characters are going back to Paris, and that pretty much excites me a lot. :)

Magic Rises by Ilona Andrews (July 30). Kate Daniels # 6! Should I even explain? More Kate and Curran, please!

The Final Descent by Rick Yancey (September 10). And so the last book in Will Henry’s story is coming soon, assuming this release date is true. I’m kind of scared to know how it will end, though, especially since the last book kind of tore at my heart a little when I finished it (after two months of reading, which is a very long time for me). I don’t know if my heart is ready yet.

Queen of the Clueless by Mina V. Esguerra (sometime soon, I guess? :D). Interim Goddess of Love was one of my favorite books in 2012, and I’m really, really excited to see what happens to Hannah next. Mina has been hinting that it will be out soon, and you bet it will be in my e-reader the moment she releases it. :) Summit Books is also releasing a Philippine edition of Love Your Frenemies this year, and that’s something to look forward to as well. :)

Most of these books are books from authors that I already know. As for debut books that just seem interesting…well, let’s see if I would like it. I think my reading mood this year is all about discovering books that were previously out of my radar. :) If there’s a noteworthy debut, then I’ll wait a bit before I actually dive in to see if it’s worth it.

Anything you think I should watch out for, too?

6 Thoughts on “2013 Must-Have Books

  1. You know, when I was looking for a gift to give you last Christmas, I scoured the bookstores high and low for a copy of The Moon and More, not knowing it hasn’t been released yet? Haha!

    • Aw, that’s sweet! Haha but yeah, it won’t be out till June this year! I almost missed out on this one since it’s been a long time since I last read/reread a Dessen. I wonder if I have time to marathon some of them. Hm. :D

  2. Are you a fan of Philip Pullman and his Dark Materials trilogy? I think he’s coming up with another book this year!

    • Hm, I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t read Philip Pullman yet! *hides* Better make room for him on my reading list this year. :D

  3. Yancey is on his 4th book already?! I really need to continue reading Will Henry asap! I want to create this same post but… busyness again. haist. But yay for MVE sequel!

    • Yep, the final Will Henry book! :) Haha I hope you get to read books 2 and 3 soon. I need to review book 3, but I’m lazy/busy. :D And I cannot wait for IGoL’s sequel — Mina posted the first chapter, and it looks like more Robbie and Diego? :) (But I still want Quin. :D)
