In My Mailbox (20): Where did all these books come from?

This is me catching up on a couple of weeks of In My Mailbox posts again. It’s always more fun to post when you have more books to post about, right? :) Plus, I was out of town last weekend and I was just too exhausted to take photos and come up with an IMM post. Anyway, so many books in the past weeks — even I am surprised at my stash. Look:

Wee~

So, what did we get in the past few weeks?

I attended the launch of the fourth (and much-awaited!) Trese graphic novel at Robinsons Bestsellers two weeks ago. I’m not really a graphic novel person, but I loved Trese and I’ve been waiting for the fourth book ever since I finished all three a few months ago. :) The event was a success if you were to judge only with the number of people who attended (dress code was black, apparently :P). I do think it was an overall success because not only was it a full-house event, but also we got our books signed. :)

From NBS and Fully Booked

From Booksale

From Book Depository

The next weekend was not only payday weekend, but also my weekend away with my Goodreads friends. Now, we did go to the beach, so how could we have had time to acquire books, right? We passed by a Booksale on our way home. :) And, as if it wasn’t enough, some of us also passed by another bookstore on our way to dinner. They were on sale! We don’t have self-control! :P

Okay, maybe I don’t have self-control. Haha.

  1. Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John (Fully Booked Eastwood) – I already have an ebook copy of this, I know, but I spotted the paperback in Fully Booked and I couldn’t leave without it. I loved this book so much that I figure owning a paperback copy to keep and maybe to lend out is good. So yeah. :)
  2. Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins (Book Depository) – Finally, my copy has  arrived! Can’t wait to read this. :)
  3. Trickster’s Choice by Tamora Pierce (Booksale) – I loved Tamora Pierce’s Alanna series, but I really have little idea of her other books in the same universe. Aaron pointed out Trickster’s choice to me while we were in Booksale, and I saw it was the first book, and it was only P55 (a little over 1 USD). And it was hardbound. How can I resist?
  4. Life As We Knew It and The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pffefer (Booksale) – I’ve been wanting to get these books for a long time now but I never had the chance. So glad to find secondhand copies of these. :)
  5. Holes by Louis Sachar (Booksale) – I figure it’s about time for me to read this, too.
  6. The Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey (Bestsellers) – Got this since I’m going to read it together with some of my blogger friends, and I’m really liking the first book in the series even if it’s very gory. This also probably means I’ll be getting the third book sometime, which means I’m going to scare myself even more. *smh*
  7. Falling Together by Marisa Delos Santos (Bestsellers) – So I was really planning to wait for someone to get me this book, after posting a Want Books post about it and learning that it’s quite expensive for a trade paperback book. But…it was on sale! And I’ve been itching to get it! And I’m weak! So yeah, I got it. Good thing it was 20% off. Still expensive, but not as expensive as it used to be. And it’s also a good thing I love the author.
  8. How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr (Book Depository) – I wasn’t expecting this to arrive so soon! I pre-ordered this a few months ago, and I got the dispatch email about two weeks ago. I was expecting this to arrive by end of October, but it arrived this week. Yay. :)

Being with book lovers also meant borrowing books, such as:

Thanks, Maria! :)

I have a feeling I will lose sleep for a few days over the fright level of this book (which is high, coming from friends who’ve read this. Add that to the fact that I’m a scaredy-cat…yeah, I’ll probably be sleeping with the lights on for a while after I read this)…but all the good reviews have been making me sort of…braver. Haha. Let’s see what happens. Thanks to Maria for lending me her copy.

All these books should tide me over until Christmas, right? Besides, Christmas means Christmas parties and steel drums, and that means exchange gifts. Knowing my bookish friends, I probably should save the books I want and put them in my wish list — maybe a kind soul will take note. ;)

What did you get in your mailbox this week? :)

10 Thoughts on “In My Mailbox (20): Where did all these books come from?

  1. Wow great haul!! I Loved Anna Dressed in Blood I hope you do too! I also got Lola this week I can’t wait to get to it.

    Giselle
    Xpresso Reads

    • Thanks for visiting, Giselle! I’m very curious about Anna Dressed in Blood, but I’m a scaredy cat, so I’m nervous, too. :D

  2. Holes! I love Holes! =)

  3. 1) Dumb! You already know how I feel about Dumb. YAY DUMB.

    2) I have Trickster’s Choice — haven’t read it (or ANY Tamora Pierce), let me know what you think!

    3) Life As We Knew It — let me know how you liked this one. I DNF’d it for FYA’s book club last year, but I’ve heard it gets better after the first book.

    4) I have Holes and haven’t read it either! And it looks like a super short and easy read, maybe we should do a readalong? ;)

    • 1) Yay Dumb! :)

      2) Oh I loved the Alanna series. It should be required reading for girls — Alanna is so kick-ass. :) Trickster’s Choice is about Alanna’s daughter. :)

      3) Hm interesting. There’s mixed reviews for this, but I can’t pass up a YA book on our bargain bookstore here since they’re pretty rare there. Especially something in good condition like this. :D

      4) I think Holes is a bit middle grade? There’s a movie for this, too, but I want to read the book first. :) Hm, a readalong would be nice. When shall we set it? :)

  4. I loved the Alanna books too and was so excited when I found Trickster’s Choice. It’s been a several years since I’ve read it, so I don’t remember a lot of details, but did love getting to see Alanna from her daughter’s point of view.

    • A friend and I were talking about Alanna series a few days ago and it got me excited to read the other books in the Tortall universe. Glad to hear this one is good. :d

  5. oh i have DUMB too ~ but have not read… (well, only got it last week)

and i LOVED how to save a life. seriously must review that at some point…

i love the photos you took.
