Waiting on Wednesday: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Let me just say: there are so many good interesting books coming out. Ahh, if only I have all the time and money in the world to read and buy them all.

This week’s Waiting on Wednesday (hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine) is something ghostly — from the title to the blurb itself! “Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Sixteen-year-old Evie’s job is bagging and tagging paranormals. Possessing the strange ability to see through their glamours, she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency. But when someone–or something–starts taking out the vamps, werewolves, and other odd beasties she’s worked hard to help become productive members of society, she’s got to figure it out before they all disappear and the world becomes utterly normal.

Normal is so overrated.

Don’t you just love that last line of the blurb (that’s from Goodreads, by the way). This seemed very interesting, and there’s nothing like a book that combines all sorts of creatures in it instead of just focusing on one (or two). It seems very, very interesting. :)

I…am not too crazy about the cover, though. It gives off a dark vibe, which makes me think of an old type of novel, one that’s too scary that I totally skip it. I am assuming there’s some kind of humor in this novel, given the blurb, right? Or maybe I’m just assuming too much.

Or maybe, the girl on the cover is kind of giving me the creeps.

Nevertheless, this is going in my wish list. :)

Waiting on Wednesday: Grace by Elizabeth Scott

Waiting on Wednesday

I’m not much of a fan of Elizabeth Scott, save for her Stealing Heaven. Sometimes I wonder if there’s something wrong with me, since everyone else seemed to like Bloom and Perfect You so much. Or maybe I just need to re-read them? I may have been expecting something too much from them since I am such a fan of Sarah Dessen.

Nevertheless, I am definitely curious about this upcoming release by Elizabeth Scott.

Grace by Elizabeth ScottGrace by Elizabeth Scott
Release date: September 16, 2010

A fable of a terrifying near future by critically acclaimed author Elizabeth Scott.

Grace was raised to be an Angel, a herald of death by suicide bomb. But she refuses to die for the cause, and now Grace is on the run, daring to dream of freedom. In search of a border she may never reach, she travels among malevolent soldiers on a decrepit train crawling through the desert. Accompanied by the mysterious Kerr, Grace struggles to be invisible, but the fear of discovery looms large as she recalls the history and events that delivered her uncertain fate.

Told in spare, powerful prose, this tale of a dystopian near future will haunt readers long after they’ve reached the final page. [source]

This kind of reminds me of Hunger Games, with the dystopian theme. I think this is her first foray into something that isn’t contemporary YA? It seems interesting, and Adele gave a glowing review on this book. Curioser and curioser, yes? I hope it goes out in Kindle. :D

Waiting on Wednesday: Plain Kate by Erin Bow

Waiting on Wednesday

Sometimes, I really wonder how people can think of awesome premises to stories. Case in point: Plain Kate by Erin Bow.

Plain Kate by Erin BowPlain Kate by Erin Bow
Release date: September 20, 2010

Plain Kate lives in a world of superstitions and curses, where a song can heal a wound and a shadow can work deep magic. As the wood-carver’s daughter, Kate held a carving knife before a spoon, and her wooden talismans are so fine that some even call her “witch-blade”: a dangerous nickname in a country where witches are hunted and burned in the square.

For Kate and her village have fallen on hard times. Kate’s father has died, leaving her alone in the world. And a mysterious fog now covers the countryside, ruining crops and spreading fear of hunger and sickness. The townspeople are looking for someone to blame, and their eyes have fallen on Kate.

Enter Linay, a stranger with a proposition: In exchange for her shadow, he’ll give Kate the means to escape the angry town, and what’s more, he’ll grant her heart’s wish. It’s a chance for her to start over, to find a home, a family, a place to belong. But Kate soon realizes she can’t live shadowless forever — and that Linay’s designs are darker than she ever dreamed.

Seriously, how?

Anyway, I’ve been looking through Amazon lately and been seeing all these awesome books. Then I realized: I hardly look at fluff anymore. I seem to be more interested in YA fantasy. Hrm, think I’m changing?

Waiting on Wednesday: Halo by Alexandra Adornetto

Here’s me trying to blog here more often. Yay!

Ever since I got a Kindle for my iPod touch, I’ve been sampling like crazy. I have about twenty samples in my iPod, most of it are still unread because I don’t have the time to read them yet. Sampling is awesome because it lets me read the first few pages of the book and from there I can sort of decipher if I want the book or not. No more impulse buys, yes? I hope.

I just kind of wish that we can sample some of the books that are just coming out. But alas, I have to wait.

Waiting on WednesdaySince I can’t sample this one yet, I will just have to satisfy myself with putting it on my Waiting on Wednesday post. “Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. My WoW entry for this week is:

Look at that cover. So pretty! I can’t remember where I saw this book, but as I was browsing Amazon today, I saw this one…and I want it. Of course, this is me judging a book by its cover again, but how can you not fall in love with something like that? It looks even prettier than outdoor Christmas decorations. *shiny*

I like the concept of angels, too, and mostly all the angel stories I’ve read were about fallen angels and it’s kind of depressing. Not all angels are dark, you know. Plus why the focus on fallen angels? The idea of a teenage girl/angel who falls in love with a human boy is a new one, instead of a male angel falling in love with a human girl.

And again, that cover. So. Pretty!

ETA: OMG, Alexandra Adornetto is only 18?!?!

Waiting on Wednesday: Perfectly Dateless by Kristin Billberbeck

Did you notice that I have two consecutive posts about two Noras? Now this is another post about another Kristin. How about that?

Waiting on Wednesday

Anyway, this is my first Waiting on Wednesday post! “Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. My WoW entry for this week is:

Perfectly Dateless by Kristin Billerbeck

Perfectly Dateless by Kristin Billerbeck

Daisy Crispin has 242 days to find the right date for the prom. There’s only one problem–her parents won’t let her date or even talk to a guy on the phone. Oh, and she’s totally invisible at school, has to wear lame homemade clothes, and has no social skills. Okay, so maybe there’s more than one problem. Can she talk her parents into letting her go to the prom? Or will they succeed at their obvious attempt to completely ruin her life? With hilarious and truthful writing, Kristin Billerbeck uncovers the small–and large–mortifications that teen girls encounter. Readers will fall in love with Daisy’s sharp wit and resourcefulness as she navigates the world of boys, fashion, family, and friendship.

Kristin Billerbeck is one of my favorite Christian chick-lit authors — God knows how much I loved her Ashley Stockingdale series. :P I saw this book while I was doing my Amazon shopping over the weekend (more to that on a later post, when my books get here), and I thought it was already released, but alas. I have to wait until July 1. I hope my dad comes home around that time too, so I can have this ordered. :D
