Hello 2011!

Well, it’s 2011 in my side of the world, and I know some of you are already there too, while others are still waiting for the clock to strike midnight. But whatever time you get to read this, I hope you are having a splendid 2011 so far.

Now that I am done with my 10 for 2010 lists (and believe me, it was very hard to make those lists – fun, but very hard!), I can rest from choosing among the many, many books I’ve read last year and now focus on…the math. I know, why am I starting my new year with math?! But this is fun math, anyway, and it doesn’t require much complicated stuff, only statistics. :)

So, presenting, my reading stats for 2010:

Total books read: 118
Total pages read: 32,973*
Total print books: 50
Total ebooks:
* Includes 558 pages from The Message Bible

Written by male authors: 29*
Written by female authors: 94*
* Books written by a male and a female author (Rachel Cohn & David Levithan, Ilona Andrews) count twice

Reviews written: 114

5 stars – 24
4 stars – 47
3 stars – 33
2 stars – 13
1 star – 1

2010 Challenges Status:
118 out of 100 books read
20 out of 20 fantasy books read (I stopped counting after 20)
3 out of 10 classic books read (6, if you count C.S. Lewis’ books — are they considered as classics already? No? Okay)

TBR Challenge: 2 out of 12
Project 20:10: 16 out of 20
YA-D2: 5 out of 5 (but not all in my initial list was read)

Okay, that is enough numbers, I think. Overall, it is a very good year in reading, despite not having finished all my challenges. I mean, 118 books is already so many books read, and I know I’m not stopping anytime soon.

I know I won’t be doing a quantity challenge again for the 2011, because I think I’ve already proven that I can read a lot. Plus in the end, it’s not really the numbers, anyway, but the quality of books read, right?

I am pretty sure I will try to top my 3 classic books this year and try to make it to 4 or 5. I will also keep on reading as many local fiction possible, not only because I’m Filipino, but because I believe in our literature, and I want to be one of the reasons why Filipinos will keep on writing. I will probably try a genre specific challenge, or at least something that will help me get out of my reading comfort zones.

Like what I said, 2010 has been a great year in reading, and I’m sure a lot of people agree. :) Here’s to a greater reading year in 2011. *cheers*

Hi tina! Congratulations to your new doman for personal blog! Very girly. Haha

you read a lot! I read only 65 books this year, it’s fewer compared to my 2009 reads. Hoping for us to read more books and discover new genres :)

  2. Wow, I can’t believe that it’s been a year already. Time flies by so fast right? Whoa, 118 books in a year? That’s amazing :P I too have to make room for classics and local fiction (like Mina Esguerra’s books right?) Its just that sometimes I find it hard to pry away from my go-to genre which is mostly YA and Fantasy :) I need to challenge myself to read more books in terms of quantity and in terms of diversity in genre this coming 2011. :P

May 2011 be an awesome year for you Tina! Happy New Year! :P

    • YES! I definitely recommend MIna’s books! :) Very good local chick lit. :)

Classics seem to be my waterloo, but I’m learning to read them one by one. I’m not like the others who devour classics like they’re normal contemporary or fantasy books. I didn’t even really start reading fantasy until last year. I figure with classics, I’m going to take it one book at a time. :D

I need to challenge myself to read more books in terms of quantity and in terms of diversity in genre this coming 2011. :P

We can do this! :) It’s nice when you discover a good book that is out of your normal genre. Makes you feel so smart and well-read for some reason. LOL. :)

And same to you, Tin! Have an awesome 2011! :)

  3. HA! Poor male author stat!!! But look who’s talking, the person who read just 19 books from female authors out of 106. Boo me!! You should start reading more male authored books!!!

    • I KNOW. Too few male authors for me, but I wasn’t surprised. I’ll do better next year, just as you should with female authored books. :P

  4. Congrats on your reading milestones ^_^

  5. Wow! Lots of books read last year! I’m inspired to read more this year!

    • I know people who read about 200+ last year. Haha crazy, right? But good kind of crazy. :) Have a great year, Edil!

  6. O.o You’ve counted the pages too?

  7. Have you read Stephen King books lately? ;) You read quite a lot of books so maybe you’ve stumbled into two or more? :)

    • I’ve read only one in my entire lifetime – Bag Of Bones. My friend gave it to me, and I sort of skimmed at the end. ^^

  8. Wheeeeeew 32,973 pages sounds very impressive;) You’ve written so many great reviews and I love that the positive ratings predominate your statistics!

  9. Wow, congratulations on your achievements for 2010! You
read so many books! This 2011, I plan to read a hundred books. I
know it’s not so ambitious compared to the goals of other book
bloggers, but compared to my record for last year, which averaged
    about 50 books, it’s a lot!

    • 100 books is very doable, especially since there are so many good books that came out/will come out soon! :) Good luck to your 2011 goal!
