One Hundred!

I meant to blog about this earlier, but alas, life and NaNoWriMo and other non-shiny, non-reading stuff got in the way. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

Since I have a long day at work today, I think I can afford to have a little break and a celebration. So…here we go:

I have read 100 books in 2010!

I'm not sure if there are 100 books in that image really. Let's just pretend it is. :) (image from

I know that compared to other readers and book bloggers out there, 100 books is a small feat, but this is the first time I have actually reached that number in a year. I know it would be somewhat of an easy challenge, but I never thought I would finish it with a month and a few days to spare. :)

Of course, this doesn’t mean that I have made a huge dent in my TBR pile — in fact, it seemed to have grown bigger as I did this challenge. But oh well, I should not be surprised with that anymore.

I will still continue to read until the year ends of course. Let’s see how much I can reach before 11:59:59pm on December 31, 2010. :)

Will I do this again next year? Probably…not. I don’t want to set a number to reach anymore because I know I will keep on reading, no matter what. I initially set to read 50 books in 2008 because I felt like I don’t read enough then. Now that I know I read more than enough, I don’t think a number is necessary. A themed challenge again, maybe, but it depends on the mood.

On another note — I have four more challenges remaining, three of which I am not sure if I can still meet before the year ends. But it’s okay if I don’t reach them — the fact that I tried (even if it was just at the start) is already good enough. :)

  1. Congrats! :) Your post made me count the number of books that I read this year and I was surprised to discover that I’ve already passed the 100 mark (am now at 107, I think). My initial goal was just to read more books that I did last year (a paltry 62) but I’m not really keeping track of my total.

    • Last year I finished about 80+, and my goal was 50. Next year I don’t think I’ll keep track, except maybe for the classics. I have been wanting to read 10 classics since 2007 but I can never do finish it. ^^

  2. Like Chachic, you made me count the number of books I read this year. 99 BOOKS!!! My current read which is Isamu Fukui’s Truancy is Book# 100!! Some bloggers even count the number of pages they read for the year. I think I might do that too, that is if December wouldn’t be that hectic. I’ll do classics next year but not the coming of age novels(they just give me bad vibes, hello drama king Holden Caulfield!), maybe the sci-fis and dystopians. Ohmygawd, I really can’t believe the year is almost finished!!!!!

    • Can I dare you to read Pride and Prejudice then? ;) Just so you can say you have read that? Or maybe Persuasion?

I thought of doing the page numbers, too, but eh, too much for me. I do want to keep track of the number of words I’ve written in a span of a year, but maybe I’ll put that on my other blog.

And yes, 2010 is almost finished! Wow.

  3. You have done well!! Every year I try to shoot for that goal, but every year it seems like I read less. I think reviewing cuts into my reading time :\ I’m at 72 books at the moment.

    • Thanks Janice! Reviewing does take a lot of time from reading, not to mention real life. But 72 is already a big number, more than what other people read! :)

  4. Congrats, Tina! That was my goal, too, last year, and I met it. This year, I was informally targeting to read 100 again. Alas, I don’t think I’ll do even half. Only at 30 something this year, pathetic compared to previous years. Though surprisingly, I’m ok about it. I guess it’s like what you say: if you know you read a lot, a number’s finally not necessary.:)

    • I think as long as you enjoy what you’re reading, it doesn’t matter how many books you read. :) Unless you set a public goal like I did, ha. Thanks Honey!

  5. Congrats! I don’t even want to count my total. It will be pathetic compared to that. I think I’m a slow reader compared to most bloggers.

  7. Wow. Congrats! That would be a great accomplishment. I wish I could be like you. But I don’t have enough time, so busy at school! :)

  8. Woot! 100! Congratulations! I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to reach that number in my entire lifetime (in one year), but *high five* nonetheless!

  9. Congratulations! I have yet to reach such a number of books read in one year… it must be because I can sometimes be inconsistent.. one day I’m addicted to reading books and one day I feel like I should work hard in real life and take a short break from books which If I may mention, ends up with me being on a hiatus for a looong period of time! Nevertheless, congratulations!

  10. Congrats! But like Holly, I’m not counting mine anymore because it’s a known fact that I’m a slow reader. And since I’ve become a polybookist, I probably have 20 unfinished books this year. But I don’t feel too bad about it really which is surprising. I guess I realized you can’t judge a reader by the number of books he reads.
